Gaines Golf Tournament

Reynolda Rotary stages the annual Clarence “Big House” Gaines Golf Tournament. The proceeds from this event support the Club’s Gaines Scholarship Fund.

Clarence Gaines coached Winston-Salem State University men’s basketball team for 47 years compiling a record of 828-447 making him one of the most successful college coaches of all time. Coach Gaines is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Off the court, Coach Gaines was a legendary leader, serving in many professional and civic organizations including being a charter member of the Reynolda Rotary Club.

The Gaines Scholarship Fund was established by Reynolda Rotary to honor the memory of Coach Gaines. The purpose of the Fund to provide financial assistance to alumni of Cook School, the Club’s signature community project, who desire to attend Winston-Salem State University.

Reynolda Rotary is proud to claim that two well deserving students that now attend Winston-Salem State University as a result of the Gaines Scholarship Fund – a life changing experience.
